LIVE & DIRECT!

Wow! What an experience that was, being able to promote the work of SGREN on Bristol’s leading African

and Caribbean radio station, live on the airways on primetime morning radio.

More than just an FM/DAB/Online radio station, Ujima CIC also:

Celebrates African and Caribbean cultures through music, projects and informative talk shows.

Provides career pathways into the radio, media and the arts.

Trains, supports and up-skills volunteers.

Acts as a consultant for community organisations and businesses.

Provides a platform for showcasing local and international artists.

SGREN INTERCEPT THE AIRWAVES AT UJIMA RADIO

Many thanks to Sheetal who kindly gave us the opportunity to promote our upcoming events in a medium

we’ve not explored before and of course a privileged backstage tour of the studios-where the magic happens.

Isabelle and I were like excitable school girls when we entered the foam padded rooms, full of recording

equipment, headphones, microphones and the sound of reggae music playing in the background.

What were we going to say? What if nothing comes out when we open our mouths?

Please don’t swear!!

3, 2, 1, live and direct to circa 30,000 ethnically diverse listeners tuned in across Bristol and the surrounding

areas.

Sheetal being the fantastic radio host she is, put us at ease, asking the right questions to enable us to be able

to tell the listeners more about what we do and how they can get involved.

Before we knew it, the reggae music was back on and we had accomplished our first ever live broadcast.

Giddy with our success, it was selfie time around the studio and with our host.

We got to meet other staff members who give their time voluntarily to keep the station running.

We also peeped on music artists whilst they were recording their next hit singles!

It was a fantastic success and we have accepted the offer to come back again. So tune in and keep a

listen out to the diverse offerings of Ujima radio.
